You First: Journal Your Way to Your Best Life by Lea Michele
Now, I have to admit, I didn't journal in this book, which is why I finished it as fast as I did. It's not that I didn't think the journaling prompts wouldn't be beneficial for someone, I just didn't want to do it.
I have never watched Glee or anything else Lea Michele has done. I never read any of her other books. I simply picked this up because it looked pretty and cute. I love the cover of this book.
I liked the message of the book. "You First" is a concept that it's okay to put yourself, your dreams, your wants, and your needs first. Women as a gender have an issue with being selfish. We don't like to be and always cater to others before ourselves.
The journaling prompts were okay. They were repetitive in order to try to create habits. I wish they would have at least changed up the wording a little bit.
The writing in this book left me wanting more from Lea. I wish she had given more examples or talked more about her experiences or encouraged the reader more. But maybe she does that in her other books. I also didn't like the font of this book at all. I love script, but I think there is a place for it and in large chunks and/or in tiny sizes is not the place.
Overall, this book seemed, to me, like a quick thing to get out to ride on the coattails of her successful first book. I mean, the book itself is over 200 pages but more than half of those pages are just black lines for the reader to fill in so it's not like there was much writing or editing to do.
Personally, I wouldn't pay $16.24 this book. But if you have someone in your life who is a HUGE Lea Michelle fan, this would make a good gift for them with the inclusion of one of her other books.
There are no favorite quotes, because, well, there wasn't much to pull from.
