Into the Valley by Ruth Galm
I wasn't into this book as I thought I would be. To be honest, I'm not sure why that was. I'm not sure if I didn't like the characters or the writing style or what. It was an interesting concept, a woman feeling out of place in society so much that she cashes fake checks to get a sense of belonging and peace of mind. The story itself feels kind of dystopian although that is not the case.
This book went deep in psychological aspects and really focused on the fact that women aren't always believed when they tell someone that something is wrong. That's what stuck out the most to me. No matter how many time the main character, B., told countless people that her body didn't feel right, that she felt constantly sick, no one believed her. They all just kept harping on the fact that it was strange that she wasn't married and didn't have any kids.
I think this is a book best set for older women. That being said, I think there are other, better books to read before this one. If you are interested in this book, you can pick it up for $14.47 at Barnes and Noble.
