Just Keep Breathing by Reggie Dabbs & John Driver
This is an important book to read for teachers, social workers, and any parents. I think it's something that people really need to read in today's world where it seems like depression, harmful thoughts and actions, and bullying is running rampant.
This book puts the voices of children in school at the forefront, letting them tell their tragedies and problems to someone they trust, Reggie Dabs. Dabs travels around the world visiting schools and giving talks that lift kids up.
After each letter, you get to see Reggie's responses and how he helps and encourages them, even if it is in small ways. John Driver then completes each chapter going into more detail about how we, as humans, can help other little humans.
It was a very interesting and informative read. I'll be using some of the things I learned in this book to help the younger people in my life navigate the ups and downs. I recommend this for anyone who knows someone in middle school and high school. You can pick it up for $15.29. You can also hear some of Reggie's speeches on YouTube!
Important Quotes:
"Somewhere, somehow the hurt you are going through with your own father and mother will produce this result in your life: your own kids will never feel the hurt you are going through."
"But I am still breathing. Why? Because I did something that can be very hard to do. I let somebody love me."
