Top 10 Songs of 2018
I'm so sorry I've been MIA for a while. I've had so much going on with my family and just haven't had time to sit down and write. I really wanted to get this blog post up before the end of the year because it's one of my favorites and it's so fun!
You can tell from the songs I've listened to that 2018 was A LOT. I had lots of ups and downs this year and the music I listened to reflected that. I was in a relationship, I got out of that relationship and I'm having a blast hanging out with my friends and doing new things!
I'm excited to share my top ten songs with you!
This song is so magical. I get totally in my feelings whenever I hear this song. There is something about the guitar riffs mixed with the lyrics that makes me want to smile and cry. This is such a great song to blast in your car. Clearly, I was listening to this a lot when I was in a relationship, but I listen to it all the time still. It's such a vulnerable song, in the sweetest way.
Favorite Lyric: "You know my paper heart/The one I fill with pencil marks/I think I might have gone and inked you in"
Can you tell this is my single girl song? I love listening to this getting ready to go out with my friends. It's such a cool kind of remix. The video is pretty wacky, but it's a good pump-up song! It satisfies all my 90s nostalgia and boosts up my ego, just a little bit.
Favorite Lyric: "I need a Spice Girl/Zig-a-zig-ah, fuck up my whole world"
I actually heard this song for the first time through this cover. Afterward, I checked out the original by Post Malone and I like both of them! Clearly, I like this one more, but I think because I like all the different styles in this cover. This cover also brought me awareness to Tilian (and how attractive he is!). This cover it a little angrier than the original (which is sadder) and I like that side of it.
Favorite Lyric: "You prolly think that you are better now, better now/You only say that 'cause I'm not around, not around"
This song is so beautiful. Jhene Aiko doesn't get enough credit as an artist because she makes beautiful music. This song is something I listened to a lot over the summer whenever I was on my way to the beach. It's a sexy jam but also super cool.
Favorite Lyric: "I'm tellin' everybody you're mine and I like it/And I really hope you don't mind, I can't fight it"
I love the idea of this song. The idea of being out a party and leaving with someone to do something on your own. I love the original, which isn't as upbeat and pop-y as the remix. The remix is so much fun though. This is a great "country" song to try to get your country-hating friends into the genre.
Favorite Lyric: "Baby, you and me could leave right now/Meet me out back if you like how that sounds"
This is another goody. Dan + Shay have been a recent love of mine. I think this song is so relatable. We all have that thing that makes us think of someone we used to know. You need to check out their song with Kelly Clarkson! That one is a favorite of mine too!

Favorite Lyric: "The past can't haunt me if I don't let it/Live and learn and never forget it"
Kane Brown is another recent discovery and I LOVE him. This song is one of my favorites from him. This is such a sweet song. I love playing this when I'm in the car or when I'm home. I don't know why but this song makes me want to slow dance even though it's not technically a slow dancing song.
Favorite Lyric: "Lying next to you, in this bed with you, I ain't convinced/'Cause, I don't know how, I don't know how heaven, heaven/Could be better than this"
Gosh, I'm a little surprised this is my number one song, but I'm also not at all. Set It Off still leaves me wanting more when it comes to their music videos, but the still kill it with their music. Their last album was more pop but this new album sounds like it's going to be a little heavier. My body is ready for it. This is a great song to run to and I play it all the time when I'm at the gym. I can't wait to hear more from them.
